Thinking about installing a fence yourself? You definitely want to be prepared with the right fence installation tools to complete the projects. Not to mention a lot of manual labor!
So, you’ve decided to have either a wood, vinyl, chain link, or aluminum fence installed on your property. You may be thinking you could save a few bucks if you did all the work yourself, but will you?
Do you have the necessary equipment?
Most homeowners typically don’t have the right equipment and know how to properly use them for a successful fence installation project. This includes:
A string line to ensure the fence lines are straight. The string needs to be run as taut as possible.
A nail gun and hammer to put the fence together.
A digging bar is used to break up rocky areas and hard dirt when digging the holes for the posts. It is also used for tamping concrete and dirt when setting posts.
A level is necessary to ensure the pickets, posts, and rails are all level. This will definitely impact the end results.
A post hole digger is very important to use when building a fence. The hole must be 2 to 3 feed deep, narrow holes for the post.
A tape measure should be used to ensure the holes for the posts are deep enough, the gate spaces and fence sections are the right size.
A circular saw is very effective for cutting posts, rails, and boards.
A drill is necessary for installing hinges, latches, and gates.
Make sure your fence meets all building and safety codes
Do you know the specific fencing requirements for your city or town? How far the fence can be from the property line, or how tall they can be, or the depth of post holes.
In many cases there are rules that need to be followed, especially if you have a home owners association. There are also electrical, water, and gas lines running underground, creating a digging hazard.
