If you are thinking about having a fence installed on your property, either for your home or business, it’s a big investment. With so many fencing materials on the market, wood, vinyl, aluminum and chain link, it can be difficult to know which one is best for your situation.

Here are a few questions to ask before having a fence installed

Wood composite shadowboxWhat do I want the fence to accomplish?

Different fencing materials have their own perks and benefits. If you want security, wood is a good option. It will also keep children and pets contained. If you are looking for privacy, then vinyl may be a better option. Surrounding your property, not allowing the neighbors to peek inside your yard. Aluminum is great for enclosing a pool or provide safety from a lake, without blocking the view.

How much maintenance are you willing to do down the road?

If you are anything like me, I’m looking for the easiest option, which would be vinyl. It looks great year after year. It just may need the occasional hosing off with soap and water. But nothing beats the classic look of a wood fence. While typically they are known for needing a little more maintenance than vinyl, quality wood and installation makes all the difference. Enabling them to stand up to the environmental conditions, they even come with a warranty.

Will it impact your neighbors?

Will the height of the fence you choose block the view of any of your neighbors? If so, you may want to talk with them before you have it installed. If it is more privacy you’re looking for, just convey that to them. Discuss it with them, the last thing you want is angry neighbors.
